MAKING MUSIC

Carrying a lifelong obsession with music, Raihana began playing the acoustic guitar at the age of 12 after receiving one as a birthday gift from her mother. Her love for music has always been vast and undeniable in her life but her favorite punk rock band Green Day was the driving force that inspired her to become a musician. Realizing the therapeutic effects of songwriting, she began using music as a coping mechanism for her parents’ divorce and as a means to navigate through the woes of migrating from Homestead, Florida to the Caribbean island of Trinidad. For Raihana, creating music was the perfect way to express her emotions and a suitable medium to channel her insatiable love for writing which she began cultivating as a child. After many years of performing at school talent shows, entertaining friends and family and posting musical content on social media platforms as they came into existence, she was determined to take her music further and began performing at notable venues across Trinidad with the name 'Rai' in tow. These performances were the foundation for her garnering invaluable musical training and performance experience. She began performing at countless notable lounges, concert venues, restaurants and events across Trinidad on a monthly, sometimes weekly basis. She has been featured on local television programs, multiple news platforms, newspapers, online media and magazines. She released her first single 'Outta My Mind' independently at the age of 22 and in 2020 she became the first solo female alternative artiste of the decade in Trinidad to release an EP with ‘Alive’. 

She describes Alive as “a compilation of 5 originally written songs that best reflect my early years as a musician and a young adult,” with tracks like 'Alive', 'Rush of Love', 'Taurus' and 'Service Station' and 'Outside' being placed on rotation on Trinidadian radio stations. These songs are played to present day. She is best known for her unique vocal ability and quirky stage presence but mostly for her original songs that have generated their own fan base. By 2022 she began using the moniker 'Rai Hana' and was fully indoctrinated into the local Trinidadian music scene.

In May 2024 she released a new single Love Me, along with her first music video directed by award - winning Trinidadian film maker Michael Mooleedhar. She plans to continue releasing original music in keeping with her goal of connecting with a wider audience and elevating herself as a writer and entertainer.

RADIO

Receiving her BSc in Management Studies with an undeclared minor in Marketing (Hons) from the University of the West Indies in 2017, Raihana knew she wanted to utilize her education to further her love of music. After winning a radio competition to attend the 2014 iHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas, Trinidadian radio station 95.1 the Best Mix took an interest in her voice and offered her training to begin her journey as a radio announcer. She quickly jumped into the radio world and began her career as an announcer. After a 4 year radio hiatus to complete her education, in 2018 she began working as an announcer on Heartbeat Radio 104.1fm Radio for Women where she hosted a daily radio program Matters of the Heart from 2018 to 2023. She is now skilled in the areas of broadcasting etiquette, interviews, telecommunications software and advertising and while she is not presently employed with a radio station, she continues records voice overs and advertising content. 

EVENT HOSTING

Having years of experience with Public Speaking, conducting live shows and being considered a public figure,  Rai Hana also has experience with hosting. In 2016 she co-hosted the event ‘Made for This’ featuring US Pop star Jesse McCartney. Today she continues to host private and public events, concerts and partakes in panel discussions within the music industry.
